ARTIST PROFILE
ARA VARTANIAN
Ara Vartanian is part of a family affair with the jewelry world. Raised in the midst of precious stones that his father traded in São Paulo, Brazil, Ara graduated in economics at Boston University and moved to New York in 1998 to work in the financial market, but left the life of a Nasdaq trader behind when he decided to return to Brazil to honor the Vartanian tradition.
He started working in the family business in 2000 and soon decided to fly solo. In 2002, his homonymous jewelry brand was born.
Willing to differentiate himself in the market, Ara’s innovative techniques resulted in modern pieces such as two and three finger rings, Octopus rings, Hook Earrings and his signature inverted diamonds. Stones gain structures around them and are the greatest source of inspiration for Ara and a starting point for all pieces. Things have evolved fast since then…
Ara Vartanian pieces began to be sell internationally in 2002 and along the years has won the attention of clients like Lupita Nyong’o, Madonna, Penelope Cruz, Jennifer Lawrence, Blake Lively, Liv Tyler, Emma Stone, Ronnie Wood and Kate Moss. The collection also began to be offered at high jewelry retailers such as Cayen Collection.
Ara’s focus today is to change the industry with his Conscious Mining Program and to create transparency and sustainability in the worldwide jewelry market. He continues to be the creative mind and delightful spirit behind his brand.
